Statement of Intent
COVERS AND CONTENTS
My entertainment magazine research found similar sets of codes and conventions. The use of sophisticated fonts, close up solo shots and bold colours form minimalist colour schemes. I intend to replicate this on my covers by using a close up to mimic the covers of Variety and Vanity Fair and a group shot like those of Hollywood reporter. Through asking a group of my friends I found that 16-25-year olds think that magazines like Hollywood Reporter and People are aimed at 30-year olds and that they preferred the style of fashion magazines like Wonderland. I saw the house style of Wonderland was more casual, using different fonts and colours other than black, white and red, making it more 'fun-loving'. I intend to take inspiration from these to appeal to my target audience, for example I plan to use hand drawn details. I saw that the target audience are liberal and interested in a mix of intellectual articles about society but also light-hearted sections about fashion, music etc... So, I intend to include a variety of articles about social issues and thought-provoking subjects but also more casual articles like those found on the entertainment website, Buzzfeed. (196)

For my website I intend use similar ideas. I will base the design off of the theme of the contents and covers and use the same photos in the contents for the background of the website and the same colour scheme. These similar features will be extended on the website by including polls, competitions and audio-visual content of the cover models and other people featured in articles. My research into the audio-visual content on magazine websites saw backstage clips of photoshoots, interviews and highlights of the magazine, I intend to replicate one of these on my website. Readers of the magazines will be encouraged to visit the website through text about exclusive content, polls and competitions. The hand drawn graphic details I intend to add to the covers and contents will also be featured on the website, plus other ones highlighting and directing people to interesting articles or segments. These details will make the product more appealing to the 16-25-year-old fun loving audience. I intend to use interactive features like scrolling images that link to articles and include images exclusive to the website from photo shoots that will make my website appealing and interesting to visit. HOW HAVE I CREATED A SET OF COHESIVE PRODUCTS
I intend to create a set of cohesive media products by using the same mast head on my website and covers, by featuring photos from the same shoot on all products and the same article titles on the contents and website. The hand drawn graphic details also help to create a house style that reflects a fun loving 16-26-year-old audience. It should be obvious to the readers that each product is an extension of the other; people who read the magazine or the website will be encouraged to either buy the magazine or visit the website.
